"Memory Score" a new commission from FestivAlt in Krakow (Poland)

I am thrilled to announce this new choreographic commission from FestivAlt (Krakow, Poland). The work is made in a collaboration with director and dramaturge Michael Rubenfeld and composer Alex Roth. It will feature Krakows dancers Monika Szpunar and Magdalena Skowron.

Memory Score is a live, site-specific dance performance exploring how we form and deepen physical and emotional relationships to the Kraków Ghetto. Once a place of horrifying brutality, this area of Podgórze has been reclaimed by the ever-evolving city it lies within. But what traces of these violent stories remain and how do we experience them today?

During the hour-long piece choreographed by Kasia Witek, dancers lead the audience through the district's streets past sites of historic significance – some of which have been officially commemorated while others are barely visible – attempting through this communal act to reconcile the neighbourhood's present with its past. Specially commissioned music by Alex Roth is heard through headphones incorporating field recordings from the sites as well as contributing texts by Kraków-born poet Ewa Elżbieta Nowakowska and FestivALT co-director Michael Rubenfeld.

This event takes place outside and will follow all necessary COVID-19 restrictions. Please have with you something to cover your mouth & nose.
